Frances Kakugawa Speaks on “A Writers Life–The Process” at the Northern California Publishers & Authors Meeting
Time: Saturday, October 8 · 10:30am – 12:30pm
Location: Merrill Gardens Retirement Community
7418 Stock Ranch Road
Citrus Heights, CA
Our guest speaker will be Frances Kakugawa, author of nine books including her latest, “Breaking the Silence, A Caregiver’s Voice.”
Frances Kakugawa was born and raised on the Big Island of Hawaii in the village of Kapoho. She became a teacher, taught for many years in Hawaii and Michigan, and lectured at the University of Hawaii.
In 1996, Frances became the caregiver for her mother, Matsue, who had Alzheimer’s disease. When Matsue died, Frances felt her mother was finally set free—leaving a precious legacy of lessons.
As a result, she started a poetry and journaling support group for the Alzheimer’s Association. Her support groups are very well received by caregivers in Hawaii and California. She also speaks at national conferences.
Her newest book has a working title of “Kapoho: Memoirs from Modern Pompeii.” It’s expected to be released this fall.
Frances will be speaking on the writing process, from pre-rough drafts to book tour. She’ll discuss passion – book promotion – rough drafts – editing-editing-editing – final copy – publisher – book promotion/tour. You don’t want to miss this. With nine books to her credit and a tenth one coming soon, Frances has a lot of experience and insight and relates them with wit, humor, and great charm.
