Frances Kakugawa has worked with children and adults in poetry and writing workshops. A retired educator, she has been a writing resource teacher and continues to work with children interested in writing poems. She presently conducts writing support groups for caregivers and offers writing workshops for all ages.
Frances is a popular speaker and has given lectures and key note addresses for numerous health and elder care agencies, including Brookdale National Group Respite Program; Institute for Genetic Medicine Art Gallery, Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California, Los Angeles; University of Virginia Medical School; Keiro Health Care Genki Conference; Hawaii Pacific Gerontological Society; St. Francis Healthcare System of Hawaii, Hospice Grief Conference; and Alzheimer’s Association chapters in California and Hawai‘i. In addition, she writes a monthly column, “Dear Frances…,” answering questions from readers of The Hawai‘i Herald, a twice-monthly news journal for the Japanese American community.
